NDIS
The NDIS provides funding to eligible people based on their individual needs. Every NDIS participant has an individual plan that lists their goals and the funding they have received. NDIS participants use their funding to purchase supports and services that will help them pursue their goals.
Everyone has different goals but they could include things like getting and keeping a job, making friends or participating in a local community activity. NDIS participants control the support they receive, when they receive it, and who provides it.
NDIS Explained
The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life. The NDIS also connects anyone with disability to services in their community. Supports and services for participants fall into three categories: core, capital and capacity building. The NDIS funds a range of supports and services which may include education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements and health and wellbeing. In order to be considered reasonable and necessary, a support or service: must be related to a participant’s disability.
Getting Started With NDIS
1. Get prepared – gather all of the evidence that you may require to apply for NDIS funding.
2. Your NDIS planning meeting – take along with you your supporting documents and checklist.
3. Get to know your plan. Ask your LAC if you have any questions.
4. Organise your NDIS finances. Select a plan manager if you are not going Self Managed. SIgn a service agreement with your selected provider.
5. Organise your supports – If you have SC in your plan, Select a SC, research service providers & set up agreements with each of them.
6. Track your plan – During your plan, keep track of your funding to ensure you are using what has been allocated to you.
7. Annual review – Make a list of what you would like to change and why, and make it clear to the LAC.
